Valentine Wedding | Wedding Photography Portland Oregon

Okay, you know you are behind on blogging when you realize that it’s Valentine’s Day weekend and you haven’t yet blogged your Valentine’s Day Wedding from two years ago. But the timing does work out pretty well for me to share these beautiful photos from the adorable Matz wedding. Their wedding did happen on Valentine’s Day and, of course, it was Valentine’s Day themed, which was a first for me. I adored the heart shaped cookies they had for their guests.

The other thing that made this wedding fun and unique is that it was held at the Hillsboro Public Library.  I doubt Amber and Justin knew this but it just so happens that February is “Library Lover’s Month” so win-win! I’ve never had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at a library before so I really had fun getting some unique shots that I really love! They are some of my most favorite wedding shots in my 14 years of shooting weddings, because they are so different.

Windy Wedding | Wedding Photography Portland Oregon

The Kinslands had a beautiful outdoor peacock themed wedding ceremony and reception planned at a park in Corvallis, OR. Some rain threatened their beautiful day, but what really did them in was the massive wind that tried to blow their special day away. So at the last minute, they had to move their wedding to a nearby bar, called  Jack Okole’s Bar & Grill .   I was amazed at how good the bride took such a last minute change in plans. It was definitely one my most challenging weddings to photograph because bar lighting isn’t anywhere near ideal for good photographs. And I really don’t prefer having neon beer signs in the background, haha! Also, the room was such a small space to hold all their beloved friends and family. But we all did the best we could with a difficult situation. The bride and groom and the wedding guests had a great time. No matter what the location, their love was the same and it was a beautiful ceremony to unite two people who adore each other. Thankfully, we were able to squeak in some outdoor formal photos and  Bruce’s Starker Arts Park, where the wedding was originally supposed to be held, and I’m so glad, because I absolutely love the photos we got outside.

Hilltop Wedding | Wedding Photographer Portland Oregon

Jason and Stephanie were married at The Anderson Lodge Hilltop House in Ariel, Washington. It was a beautiful venue with gorgeous views. There wedding was simple, yet classic and warm. I felt like part of the family and it was an honor to be there and capture their precious memories. Isn’t Stephanie’s dress gorgeous?

Marriage Coaching | Wedding Photography Portland Oregon

I ADORE weddings! The planning, the decorations, the music, the dancing, the pretty dresses. That’s why I really enjoy being a wedding photographer.   But what I love even more than weddings is marriage.   For this reason, my husband, Nate, and I were trained to become marriage coaches through a faith based organization called, Marriage Team. We volunteer as marriage coaches because we are so saddened the insanely high divorce rate in our country, and we love seeing marriages that are strong and full of love and respect.   So we meet with couples once a week and we teach them skills that will strengthen their marriage.

Couples sign up for coaching because they are engaged and want to do pre-marital coaching, or they are married and have a good marriage but want to enrich their marriage, or because their marriage is struggling and they want to avoid divorce.   And, actually, there have been divorced couples who have gone through marriage coaching and then gotten remarried.   MarriageTeam exists to help strengthen and save marriages and give couples a fighting chance for lasting happiness.

Marriage Team is always welcoming couples who want to participate in marriage coaching, no matter the reason.   And they are also always looking for couples who would like to be trained to become marriage coaches.   If you are interested in either one, I encourage you to contact Marriage Team.   Tell them Rayleigh sent you!   🙂

Choice Event | Portland Wedding Photographer

Last week I had the honor of being part of a unique bridal event that was put on by Ania Couture  at the Portland Museum of Art.   It was unique in that each vendor didn’t have a booth trying to sell their business like the way most bridal shows are.   Instead, each vendor was part of a team of vendors who’s task was to work together to  decorate a set of 6 tables (5 guest tables and a dessert table)  that were inspiring to the brides who would attend the event.   Each team was given a theme and our theme was Elegant Southern Picnic.   We chose to decorate each of the tables differently, while maintaining the proper theme and we used the 4 seasons as our primary source of inspiration for 4 of the tables and the 5th table was decorated in pinks, because we thought pink was a great color for our theme.   Our team leader was wedding planner, Elizabeth Tuosto, of Bella Giorno Events.   Elizabeth and I worked hard together to plan and  design all of the tables.

This is the pink table which we secretly but  lovingly referred to as the “Pepto Bismol” table.   The gorgeous flowers were designed by Nikki Robinson.   I was in charge of all the napkin folding and let me just say, thank the good Lord for Youtube.   haha!   The cookies were created by Debbie of Sugar Shapes.   Because of my weight loss journey, I couldn’t taste any of the adorable  cookies but I hear they were as delicious as they were cute.   The menus and name cards were designed by Stacie of Microbrew Media.   I   made the pink  gingham table runner.   I used a sewing machine and everything.   🙂

Elizabeth with Bellagiorno Events made all the chair decorations.   And the apples were her idea as well.   I love the use of apples as place card holders.   I’m also proud of the grapevine napkin rings, which were my idea.   😀

I’m very proud of this table because the centerpiece was  designed by me.   Although, the flowers were different than I had planned.   We ended up with 4 extra vases instead of a small bouquet of wild flowers tied with a ribbon that was going to sit on top of one of the stacks of books.   So I feel like the table ended up being more cluttered than it was supposed to.   But it still looked pretty.   I love the grapevine chargers under the plates.

Our team also included Kerry Yu who designs jewelry and Stephanie  Yates of Salon Mariposa who, together, fixed up 10 models according to our theme for the Ania Couture fashion show.   I wish I had some photos to share of the models because they looked great.

How did we do?   Tell me what you think of our tables!

Mood Enhancement | Portland Wedding Photographer

What do you typically do when you feel down in the dumps and you want a mood boost?   Eat chocolate?   That’s what I do, but then you have to deal with the calories.   Do you want a calorie free way to brighten your day?   According to Prevention magazine, researchers at the United Kingdom’s Open University examined how much people’s mood rose after eating chocolate, sipping an alcoholic drink, watching TV, listening to music, or looking at photos.   Guess what they found?   Music and chocolate didn’t do much of anything.   Alcohol and TV gave a slight lift.   But viewing personal photos was by far the thing that really made people feel sigificantly better.   I don’t really know how they can measure such things.   But, I can’t disagree with them, when I know how much special photos mean to my clients.   Now, looking through photos while eating chocolate and listening to my favorite music; that sounds like a good time.   😉

What do you usually do when you are feeling down?   Leave me a comment!
